My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zena is about the most soulful sweetheart you’ll find, her calm nature and gentle presence makes her an immediate favorite with everyone she meets.

Zena is fostered in a loving home and her foster calls her “the perfect dog” and it’s easy to see why. Zena is both crate and house trained (not a single accident!), sleeps soundly through the night without a peep, and listens beautifully to basic commands. She’s also incredibly attentive and responsive, the kind of dog who seems to understand what you’re asking before you even finish saying it.
Take a look at her in action then come back to read more-

If you have watched Zena’s video you might have caught her signature stride. Zena is estimated to be 4 years old and weighs 45 lbs, she has previously had a knee surgery to help her kneecap stay in place. Her vet has fully cleared her, and the only reminder is a slightly unique gait that adds character to her graceful stride. Don’t feel sad for her, she feels like a million bucks now and It doesn’t slow her down one bit (in fact play is much more carefree now.) She is active, playful, and happy to be part of whatever’s going on. She enjoys gentle play, by herself, with people, or with other dogs, and when she isn’t playing she loves to lounge near her family. She’s affectionate in the sweetest way, leaning in for pets or quietly resting her head against you like she’s saying, “I adore you.”

She is doing great with her foster’s dog and prefers calm companions who aren’t too pushy. We recently spent the day with her outside of her foster home and during a playgroup she met a variety of new dogs. Each dog, whether she met them on leash or off, she is polite and easy-going. In a moment when a dog was being too pushy with her she simply walked away, checking in with the people in the yard before heading back over to play once the groups energy came down a little. When Zena met our house cat she was friendly, gentle and respectful- curious but not chasey. She would do well with a cat-savvy, relaxed feline who is used to dogs and will welcome her connection.

Zena is looking for and will thrive in a peaceful home- whether that’s a house or an apartment (first floor or elevator access recommended due to her leg). She’s easy to walk on leash, barely needing corrections, and her soft, steady pace makes her the perfect walking companion. She enjoys toys, can easily entertain herself and is just as content snuggling up beside you while you read or watch a movie.

Zena is sweet, peaceful love, loyal, and quietly joyful. She’s looking for a person or family who will appreciate her calm heart and celebrate her innocent nature. If you’re searching for a dog who makes every day feel a little softer and sweeter, Zena is your girl.

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!

We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
