Here's what the humans have to say about me:
His name is Virgil but Virgie Verge has a ring to it, so that’s his nickname!
From the moment I met this boy he gave me good-guy vibes. You know the type, fun-loving and kind-hearted, gentle and loving. He is built for adventures and absolutely has that perfect “ready for anything” kind of energy.
Take a look then come back to read more about his amazing boy!

This boy is estimated to be around a 1.5 years old, weighs in at a solid 65 pounds, and is likely a Shepherd mix but given he is a rescue we cannot guarantee breed or birthday. The first thing you probably noticed about him is those long legs of his, he is gorgeous and has a presence to him. Given his size it was awesome to see how well he walks on leash. He keeps a nice pace and even when he is curious about something he doesn’t try to pull you towards it. Vergie is fostered in a loving home. His regular walking path is around a lake and he loves to admire the ducks and if he wants to get closer, his foster wouldn’t know it because he simply gives them a look and keeps going.
Virgies foster family has done so much to ensure he is ready and well mannered for his adoptive parents. This includes ensuring he is well socialized, has great house manners, and has basic training. You can see all of this when you meet him. He knows basic commands and is eager to please. And yes, that means he is also fully house and crate trained!
Virgie is a friendly boy and always ready to meet new people. When we first met he gave a gentle jump that felt like a hug and his foster shared that he is working on that but after one no-no reminder he didn’t do it again. Having been around a lot of jumpy dogs, I wouldn’t have even called him jumpy but until he’s learned his “four on the floor” manners, he is best suited for slightly older kids who can meet his happy enthusiasm with an occasional NO! when needed. He’s all enthusiasm, no malice- he is just a big goof who hasn’t realized his size yet.
True to his social-but-sensible nature, he loves other dogs! Virgie attends doggy daycare regularly and he has excellent dog-to-dog manners. He knows when to play and when to give others space. He thrives with a medium-energy playmate- one who likes a good romp but also knows when it’s time to flop. That same friendly nature was present when he met out house cat. He was curious and respectful which grew to curious and cautious as the cat got to moving around and making noise. He has the markers of a dog we would consider cat-tolerant and with supervision and a calm dog companion in the home, we think he could succeed with a cat in the mix.
Virgie is the kind of dog who fits anywhere: a house with a yard, an apartment with regular walks, a family with older kids, or an active single who loves weekend hikes. He’s affectionate, loyal, and up for just about anything as long as it involves being with you.
Big-hearted, bright-eyed, and built for fun, Virgie is a long-legged gentle giant and is ready to be your next great adventure.

https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about creating lasting matches between dog and family for long term success, and take the time to ensure each adoption is a fit through our matchmaking process.
At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!
We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.
Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:
Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family

The Greater Houston area faces one of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the U.S. We’re a nonprofit on a mission—to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs at risk, while promoting spay/neuter outreach in the community. When you adopt, you save more than one life— the one you adopted, and the space opened up to save another.
