Crooks ACCT-A-239096 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Crooks must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by MONDAY, DECEMBER 29TH at 10AM. Should Crooks’ medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Crooks came to ACCT Philly as a stray after being found as a stray on December 11th. He has shown himself to be a sweet, sensitive boy who bonds quickly with people once he feels safe. He can be timid at first, especially with loud noises or new environments, but consistently warms up into an affectionate, cuddly companion who seeks out pets and reassurance. Volunteers describe him as gentle, treat-motivated, and eager for affection, often running back for hugs and attention. He enjoys walks, has medium energy, and knows basic cues like sit, down, and paw. Crooks has shown loose, wiggly body language and polite greetings with other dogs, though he can sometimes feel unsure and benefits from calm, respectful introductions. Due to his length of stay, Crooks is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

12/22 Playgroup: Crooks and Olivia: https://youtu.be/ousHr_d92Co

BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 12/22, playgroup: Crooks was nervous but did loosen up with Olivia for play, both dogs would alternate and get stiff at times. Both dogs greeted eachother well initially. Crooks had hackles raised and high tail wags. Some play bows. Crooks seemed hesitant at times. Olivia eventually grabbed his leash and started slightly pulling on it. Staff went to remove the leash and Olivia redirected and went after Crooks instigating a fight. Both dogs were then separated and there were no known injuries. Crooks did appear to have heightened sensitivity towards his back end that may need further medical evaluation.

Per volunteer 12/21: Medium energy. Holding rear paw in air, easy walk, likes pets, chased a ball but not much move.

Per volunteer 12/18: Crooks knows sit, down and paw and takes treats gently. This nice dog warmed up to me quickly and ran to me to pets and hugs when called. Big noises were a little scary for him but he recovered quickly. He welcomed pets and neck rubs and gave little kisses when invited.

Per staff 12/18, playgroup: Warmed up with other dog, vocal through the gate, wagging tail and loose body, play bows, hackles up, hovering over her.

Per staff 12/15: Medium energy. Quick walk - met dog thru fence. Sniffed then snarled, so we walked away, otherwise walked well.

Per staff 12/15: Playful, bouncy + friendly, enjoyed being out in the snow. Wiggles his whole body while getting pets or talking in baby voice to him.

Per volunteer 12/14: Medium energy. Sweet, snatchy w/ treats, loosens up w/ time.

Per staff 12/14:
Kennel Presentation: Sleeping on bed when I approached. Made a kissy noise and he got up, came to the front with soft eyes, ears back and a mid to low wagging tail.
Leash Skills: Easy to leash and mildly pulls on the leash. Outside He was interested in sniffing all around.
Sociability: Fairly social. Came over an allowed all handling. Can be grabby with treats and was nibbling on my hands when I didn't have any treats in them. Can be nervous when investigating things, was sniffing around the eval room with a low crouched body, ears back and tail tucked occasionally. Same thing as when we were outside his tail was tucked when he was sniffing the donations outside the adoption center.
Dog Interaction: Saw a couple of dogs outside and on our way through the building. Accidentally went nose to nose with a small dog when we were coming in from outside. He was loose and wiggly with a low sweeping tail.
Return to Kennel: Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue.
Color Level: Exp Gold

Per staff 12/11: Unable to take on walk due to intake pending status, however sweet to hold during cleaning. Easy to leash. Loose + wiggly body, timid at first. Treat motivated. Soft eyes.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Confirmed placement is considered a confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open-intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313.
