Star is looking for a home! This adorable girl is approximately 7 years old and weighs 10 pounds. In November, Star experienced sudden paralysis in her hind legs and was surrendered to the shelter. We stepped in and brought her to our neurologist, who discovered that a herniated disc was causing the paralysis. Star underwent spinal surgery to correct it, and after several weeks of crate rest, she is steadily regaining mobility.
We are thrilled her recovery is going well because Star loves to run and play. She is a sweet, spirited young dog who has been friendly with all the dogs and people she's met in our care. She can be vocal when she wants something, whether that's attention, food, or to go outside.
Because her injury was caught and corrected early, she won't need extensive physical therapy. Vintage Pet Rescue will cover 5 sessions of PT for Star, as well as a spay surgery at the adopter's vet.
Until she is fully recovered, Star should avoid stairs or high places. We would love to find her an adopter with IVDD experience, but that is not a requirement. Star is up-to-date on vaccines and recently had full bloodwork.

Additional adoption info
We only arrange meet and greets with pre-approved applicants.
The vast majority of the dogs we take in and post on our social media will be available for adoption at some point, but not everyone is ready to be adopted right away. We first need to get all of our dogs seen by our vet, treat any health issues, and/or schedule any procedures they may need. Once the dog does not need anything else from us medically, we will post them for adoption!

Vintage Pet Rescue is a Rhode Island based 501c3 non-profit. We protect and advocate for homeless senior dogs in need by providing cage-free sanctuary living for all of our rescue's residents, helping unwanted seniors find love in their final years through our adoption program, and increasing public awareness and interest in saving senior pets.
VPR was founded by Kristen and Marc Peralta (who met at an animal shelter in 2013). Their mutual love for senior dogs is the driving force behind our organization where we are committed to rescuing vintage (senior) dogs from shelters and assisting owners who can no longer care for their senior pets.
Kristen, Marc, and their team of volunteers make sure these animals are provided with love, attention, and medical care for the last months or years of their lives. To date, VPR has saved the lives of over 1,000 dogs.
