Tater is young guy – likely 1- 2 years old. He is about 50 pounds and a very low rider package – basset hound mix of some sort. But don’t let that think he can’t move fast – he can! Tater came from the shelter system. He waited patiently two months for adoption… no one came. He was a shelter staff favorite and they were able to stop him from being put to sleep 3 times! But this last time….he would not be saved. Luckily Marley’s Mutts was contacted and they put out word to their fosters to see if someone could take him in. A family said yes, and he escaped euthanasia by a mere few hours. It is amazing this awesome dog might have been no more!
He is very healthy guy – neutered, chipped and vaccinated. He is good with dogs, cats and people. He is living with a cat in his foster home and is absolutely excellent with him. He is also living with a 90-pound can Corso puppy. He does well controlling Moose’s overzealous play and holds his own nicely with this big guy. He is also very respectful of our ultra-dominant female– another large dog. She demands respect and he is definitely not pushing her buttons. He has been around our donkeys and wants to chase – he would need training around livestock – no aggression, just play. We think he would enjoy smaller dogs … easier for him to play with than our 90 pound puppy. He likes playing and hanging out with dogs and has no aggression. He is on the moderate dominant side, but is not overly assertive. He is a confident, well-adjusted dude.
Tater is doing great in the house – appears housebroken. Sleeps in a crate quietly and is learning to stay on a dog bed even when his people leave the room. He likes to be a shadow at times. He has a mischievous side – he likes soft stuff – so he needs to be treated like a puppy while he learns what he should and should not do. Tater is an excellent car traveler and settles quickly for long rides. He goes on many excursions around town and hangs out in the car very nicely while his people are shopping. He has no food or bone aggression with people – you can take his stuff easily, but he does like to hoard his goodies from other dogs – he will need well socialized dogs in his new home.
Tater’s training is limited – he is learning all the basics in his foster home – but he is a mellow guy, so things are pretty easy with Tater. He walks well on leash and off leash. He is not a bolter and stays with you when gates open (he is on 3 acres in his foster home) - he does strive to stay with his people at all times. He loves all people, but has chosen the man in the foster family as his favorite – a dog that loves men is awesome! Tater could be an only dog or live with other dogs – he is fine either way. He can live with cats. He is laid back – not exactly the high-activity sort of pup, but he does need walks. He will need training as he leaves his puppiness behind. You can’t get a cuter package!
