Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Benny, 2 years old, neutered male, Red Heeler, 54 pounds. He is in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and is able to transport once an adopter is approved.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
Meet Benny, the boy who never stopped hoping
Benny’s journey is one that would break most hearts – but shows just how special he truly is. A good Samaritan spotted him alone at a stop sign and stopped to make sure he was okay. The moment she opened the door, Benny leapt into her car as if to say, “Please… take me with you.” Sadly, she couldn’t keep him and had to let him out again. Benny followed her car and then, incredibly, found his way back over two miles to the same spot – almost certainly where he had been dumped.
Thankfully, a foster saw a post about him and brought him to safety. Now he’s settled, loved, and ready for the forever home he’s always deserved.
About Benny
Benny is a sweet, smart, affectionate Heeler mix who loves his people deeply. He’s friendly, gentle, and eager to bond with his family. His love language is leaning in for pets, snuggles, and even his signature posture: head down, bum up – his adorable way of saying, “Hey, I’d like some attention now!”
Dog Manners
Benny has done well with other dogs and has been around medium and large ones. He is a selective player who does best with proper introductions. He enjoys calmly walking with other dogs and interacts politely.
This boy is lovely on a lead. He walks calmly, even alongside multiple dogs, and likes sticking close to his person. Benny is fully house-trained, keeps his space clean, and is crate trained. He sleeps in a crate at night without any fuss and adjusts well to a schedule.
Benny adores the foster’s 3-year-old grandson and seeks out snuggles and affection. He’d do well in a home with younger or older kids.
He has met cats that come on and off the property. He has been on leash when around them, but has not paid much interest.
He’s very food-motivated and eats with enthusiasm, but hasn’t shown signs of resource guarding. He enjoys toys, affection, comfortable spaces, and being near his people.
Benny would thrive in a home that understands typical Heeler tendencies—he’s smart, may herd with love, and looks to his people for guidance. He’d be happy in an active home but could also settle into a lower-key lifestyle as long as he has companionship and routine. He does not require another dog in the home.
Benny is an exceptional dog who deserves a home that will never leave him behind again. He’s loyal, loving, wonderfully affectionate, and grateful for every bit of kindness. If you’re looking for a forever best friend who will adore you with his whole heart, Benny is your boy.
