My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Mushroom was brought in by their previous owner on December 13, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
True to her name, Mushroom is a delicate, thoughtful girl who is fearful of strangers and needs time and patience to feel safe. She does best when given space to move away if she's unsure and will warm up at her own pace with gentle, consistent reassurance. A calm, low-traffic home without frequent visitors would be ideal for Mushroom. All members of the household should be present to meet her, as she needs time to feel comfortable with everyone. Having spent much of her time in the backyard, Mushroom may need a gentle refresher on house manners, but with patience she will continue to blossom. She needs to be adopted with her buddy, Eggplant (#968672), and is looking for a quiet, understanding home where she can feel safe and secure.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
