Poppy has one wish for the Holidays, to find her forever family to ring in the new year with!
Poppy is a three year old German Shepherd. She is the perfect size weighing roughly 55 pounds. She has a beautiful, jet black plush coat (fun fact – longer coats shed a lot less than short coats! Foster mom can confirm) and an even more beautiful soul.
Poppy’s has a wonderful temperament, textbook to breed standards. She is active, alert and assertive in a very kind manner. She is very smart and willing to learn. She thrives in an engaging environment.
Poppy is such a sweet, happy and friendly girl. She loves all people and has blended in perfectly with her foster family’s pack of dogs (both big and small!). She’s very tolerant of ornery cats and has been exposed to several other animals on the farm. She is curious about smaller animals but hasn’t shown any type of reaction. Larger animals can make her a bit nervous but she’s getting increasingly more comfortable every day. She doesn’t ever chase. She has no food, treats, or toy aggression.
Poppy is hoping to find a home that sees her as an extension of their family and includes her in their lifestyle. She is house trained and crate trained. After getting her wiggles out, she settles nicely and walks well on a leash. She has a great recall and does beautifully off leash, too! Her tail is always wagging like a little propeller and she can’t always keep herself grounded, but she’s learning quickly and responding well to down commands.
Poppy is best suited to an active adult only home, or a home with older children who are dog savvy and familiar with the breed. She’d benefit from having other fur siblings to romp and play with. A fenced in yard, or commitment to daily activities is very important for her.
Poppy is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and available now at www.pawsacrosspittsburgh.com/adopt
