Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sparky is a 5-month-old male Plott Hound mix with a stunning brindle coat that truly pops against the bright white on his chest and neck. Just as striking as his looks is his personality—especially for a puppy his age, Sparky is remarkably calm and thoughtful.
While he absolutely enjoys playtime (roughhousing with other pups is currently his favorite activity!), Sparky doesn’t feel the need to be in the middle of everything all the time. Often, he’s content to sit back and observe the action around him. As he’s still learning about the world and how to interact with other puppies, this gentle, watchful nature makes perfect sense.
Sparky loves attention from people, though he can be a bit nervous when meeting someone new. Give him a moment, sit beside him, and shower him with pets, and you’ll quickly see him relax and soak up the love. He’s learning that the world isn’t such a scary place, and with patience, reassurance, and extra affection, he will continue to gain confidence and blossom.
He does wonderfully with other dogs of all sizes and is also fine with cats and kids. Potty training and crate training are still a work in progress, but Sparky is a smart boy—his hound intelligence and love of food help him pick things up quickly.
While not required, Sparky would thrive in a home with a friendly canine companion who can help show him the ropes. That said, he’d be a great addition to any loving home willing to give him the time, patience, and love he needs to feel safe.
If you’re looking for a sweet, observant, and gentle pup to grow with your family, Sparky is ready to steal your heart and become his very best self.

More about this shelter
We are a non-profit organization out of Monticello, IA specializing in the care for dogs and cats that need us. Our care does not stay local, as we take transports from all over the United States, and adopt all over as well!
Our mission's primary focus is to help reduce the homeless pet population by finding homes for spayed/neutered pets, and helping educate WHY this process is so important, and the proper way to care for pets!
