My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

April is a 6-month-old sweetheart with a gentle spirit and a bright, curious outlook on the world. April has been diagnosed with a congenital ventricular septal defect (VSD), which is a small hole in the wall between the heart’s ventricles that she was born with. She’s fully vaccinated, doing great day to day, and currently showing no symptoms related to her diagnosis.

Right now, April feels like any other happy puppy. She plays, eats, naps, and loves just like she should. Many dogs with mild VSDs live full, joyful lives with little to no impact on their daily routine. That said, this is a lifelong condition, and adopters should be comfortable with ongoing veterinary care, including periodic cardiology check-ins to monitor her heart as she grows.

Because of her heart condition, April is considered high risk for anesthesia, which is why she has not been spayed at this time. Any future procedures would need to be carefully evaluated and performed with a veterinarian experienced in cardiac cases.

April is looking for a family who understands that love sometimes comes with a little extra responsibility. In return, she offers loyalty, sweetness, and the kind of quiet magic that only a special dog can bring. If you’re ready to open your heart to a pup who may need mindful care but has so much love to give, April may be your girl.

Additional adoption info

All of our dogs and cats come spayed/neutered and vaccinated! Some of the pups will only have their first round of shots and may need rabies if they are under 3 months old. But other than that, these babies come ready to go! Our adoption fees vary, please inquire about each dog's individual fees. We do have cats and kittens available from time to time, so please inquire if you are looking for a feline pal! With their vetting, flights and care, we only ask for the adoption donation to help offset costs and make sure our adopters are serious. We love our rescues like we love our family. They mean the world to us and we just want to see them in good loving homes! And please check back as we are always adding new rescues to this page.

More about this rescue

We approach each every situation with an open mind. We work to build respect and trust with the partners, communities and countries we work in. With their acceptance, we build a plan together to meet the most pressing issues. We listen, learn and solve the needs together. We look for solutions that are integrated, scale-able, and sustainable. At Compassion Kind, we work with governments, institutions, local leaders, civil society organizations, foundations and businesses around the world to ensure that the most vulnerable beings are heard, and that they get the assistance they need to sustain from within the communities. Our teams and partners advocate for capacity building training and grass roots techniques so we make a lasting impact, create measurable change and operate as efficiently as possible.
