My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Hanson 🐾💛
~5 years old | Male | Large Grey Tabby | Big Head, Bigger Heart
Hanson’s past is a bit of a mystery — we don’t know how long he lived outdoors or what he experienced before rescue. What we do know is this: this is where his real story begins.
Earlier this year, Hanson was trapped by our executive director, neutered, and released back outside. But Hanson had other plans. Over the following months, he kept returning for meals… and more importantly, for connection. Little by little, trust was built, and Hanson made it clear that outdoor life just wasn’t for him anymore. He chose comfort. He chose safety. He chose love.
🤍 Personality & Quirks
Hanson is a big, sweet boy who adores head and back scratches and will happily lean into your hand for affection. He does hiss — but don’t let that fool you. Hissing is simply Hanson’s way of communicating, not a sign of aggression. He may hiss… and then immediately push his head into your hand for more pets. It’s all part of his charm.
He’ll need a patient, understanding adopter who will let him move at his own pace and continue to come out of his shell on his timeline. Once you earn his trust, he’s incredibly loving.
🍽 The Way to Hanson’s Heart (and Belly)
Let’s be honest — Hanson loves to eat.
• Dry food: Purina ONE Chicken
• Wet food: Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers (Chicken)
• Treat of choice: Churus — the ultimate peace offering
He isn’t picky at all, especially when wet food is involved. If food is present, Hanson is interested.
💛 The Home He Deserves
Hanson deserves a forever home where he never has to worry about survival again — no more fending for himself, no more searching for food, no more uncertainty. Just warm beds, full bowls, gentle hands, and someone who understands that love sometimes takes time.
This big-headed, soft-hearted boy is ready for his happily ever after — safely indoors, exactly where he belongs.
If you’re the kind of person who believes the best bonds are built with patience and trust, Hanson just might be your perfect match. 🐾💛

More about this rescue

🐾 Our Mission at Billy the Kidden Rescue 🐾

Billy the Kidden Rescue is a VDACS-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2014 and supported by a network of over 60 active foster homes across Hampton Roads.

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce the feral cat population in our community by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens—transforming them into loving, adoptable pets and placing them in safe, forever homes.

💙 Our Heart is in TNR
We are proud advocates of TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return)—the humane, effective method of managing community cats. Through this program, feral cats are:

✔️ Trapped
✔️ Neutered or Spayed
✔️ Vaccinated
✔️ Ear-Tipped (as a universal sign they've been fixed)
✔️ Returned to live safely in their outdoor colonies without contributing to overpopulation.

We are actively working to promote legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads.

🐱 Feral Kitten Socialization
Our feral kitten socialization program is one of a kind—with a 90% success rate in helping feral-born kittens become affectionate, in-home pets. Through experienced fostering, patience, and love, these kittens learn to trust, play, and thrive indoors.

💪 Get Involved!
We’re always looking for passionate animal lovers to join our team. Help us make a difference by becoming a:
