My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Species: Blood Fin Tetra

Swim Shady is a lively Blood Fin Tetra who’s been schooling alongside Fin Diesel and Corydora Gill Nye for all 7 years of life. This trio can be adopted together. Swim Shady loves a balanced diet of high-quality flake or micro-pellets, plus occasional frozen or live treats like brine shrimp—because even shady fish need fuel to drop their best moves. No mom`s spaghetti for this guy, please.

A well-cycled freshwater tank with open swimming space, plants for cover, and gentle filtration is ideal. Stable water parameters, a heater, and a secure lid are essential. Enrichment includes swimming in formation with friends, exploring planted décor, and showing off signature fin beats.

This little star likes to “Just Lose It” when chasing pellets, loves being the Real Slim Shady while darting through the tank. Get ready to Lose Yourself in their charm during playtime. Swim Shady is playful, social, and always ready to turn every swim into a chart-topping performance.

More about this shelter

CONNECTING LIVES SINCE 1922

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.

Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.

Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.

Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.

Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.

Calgary Humane Society is committed to creating a better tomorrow through education and collaboration.
