My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ruger and his 4 brothers came into rescue as an "oops" litter. His family found homes for some of the puppies but were unable to place the last 5. As they grew, they knew they could not afford to keep them much longer and reached out to us to see if we could take them and find them good, loving homes. We have gotten 2 of the puppies ready to go so far. The remaining 3 will probably have to wait until after Christmas to be vetted due to holiday schedules. The puppies are purebred and were born in September of 2025. They love their food and are growing like weeds! They are very active, as this breed typically is. Malinois are working dogs and generally require a great deal of activity, a job/stimulation and regular socialization to ensure that they become the best dogs that they can be. They are initially a bit shy and unsure, as most dogs who get taken from all they know but they warm up quickly and are friendly boys. They are still young puppies so it's a great time to bring them into your family and home environment to socialize them to kids, cats and other dogs. Right now, they are basically blank slates that you will mold. Mals are mouthers, which means they like to use their mouth. Some people think they are being nippy or "biting" but it is a common behavior among puppies (and also why mals are also known as "maligators"). You will not want to allow the mouthing to escalate but some level of it is normal in the breed and in puppies, in general. Since they are still puppies, they will require training. They are not housebroken or crate trained yet and have never been on a leash. They need to learn appropriate house manners and what is acceptable to chew on. Keeping them engaged and active is key to preventing unwanted destructive behaviors. These boys are beautiful puppies who have the potential to become beautiful dogs. With the right home and the right guidance, they will become the absolute best companions! Loyal, loving and protective of their home and family!
Ruger saw the vet on 12/17/25 and was found to have no issues. He is currently too young to be tested for heartworms but has been started on Simparica Trio for flea control and heartworm prevention. He tested positive on his fecal for hookworms and has been given a Drontal to treat. He may require a follow up in 3 weeks. Ruger started his vaccinations but since he is still a puppy, he will require boosters and his rabies at 4 months to ensure he has a good foundation for protection. Ruger weighed 20.8 pounds as of 12/17/25.
If interested in giving Ruger his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Ruger's adoption fee will be $400 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Ruger based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.

More about this rescue

We are a small rescue started in September 2004. To date, we have adopted out over 1,000 dogs and cats who may not have had a second chance. We rescue the majority of our pets from kill shelters and have them thoroughly vetted prior to going to their new homes. All of our pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm checked(dogs) and dewormed. We also microchip our dogs so that they can always find their way home. Big and small, we work to rehome them all. We are always in need of donations so if you can help us to help our pets, please contact us! The more people who get involved, the more pets that we can save! We look forward to hearing from you and making that "forever match"!
