My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charlene, a 9-year-old, 15 pound, Yorkshire Terrier, possible Brussels Griffon mix, is the definition of a gentle lap dog. Small, sweet, and soulful, she’s happiest curled up in your arms or quietly keeping you company throughout the day. With her expressive eyes and scruffy little face, Charlene has a way of melting hearts without even trying.

She is leash-trained, enjoys going for relaxed walks, and rides beautifully in the car. Charlene is also familiar with a crate and does well with it—though she may let you know if she hears you nearby and would rather be soaking up some cuddle time.

At this stage in her life, Charlene would truly shine as the only dog in the home, where she can enjoy a calm, predictable environment and be the center of attention. She has done well with cats, making her a great option for a cat-friendly household. Her ideal home is one that appreciates quiet companionship, cozy routines, and the joy of a devoted senior pup.

Charlene doesn’t ask for much—just a warm lap, gentle strolls, and someone who will cherish her golden years. If you’re looking for a loving, low-key companion who will happily be by your side, Charlene may be your perfect match.

If you are interested in adopting Charlene, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age.

**Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. **

Additional adoption info

After you have found your new best friend, please read our adoption FAQ then submit our online adoption interest form at www.charlottespca.org/adopt

The Greater Charlotte SPCA does not own or operate a shelter facility. Volunteers foster all animals in their homes until adopted. Many of our animals come from high-kill shelters and other rescue situations. We find that fostering gives us the opportunity to assess the animal's personality and needs. This allows us to best match them with the right adoptive family. Also, we are able to provide all care and medical needs for our animals. It enables the animal to develop a happy frame of mind before adoption. We have many wonderful animals looking for a forever home.

Go meet their pets

We hold adoption events every weekend around the Greater Charlotte area. Check our website www.charlottespca.org for upcoming event details. If you would like to meet a particular animal, please contact us so that we can arrange for the foster to bring the animal to the event.
