My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB: 08/16/2022

Willow is a beautiful, affectionate Great Dane whose favorite place in the world is right next to her people. She’s a true “Velcro Dane,” happiest when she’s leaning her full weight against your legs or trying her best to curl up in your lap. Indoors, she’s calm and low energy, perfectly content to lounge on the couch and keep you company. Give her access to a wide, open space, though, and she transforms—stretching out into long, graceful strides that are stunning to watch.

At her core, Willow is a sensitive and deeply loyal dog. Because of experiences in her past, she sometimes finds the world overwhelming and looks to her humans for reassurance and direction. When she’s unsure or feels she has to make decisions on her own, she may briefly put on a tough front as a way to protect herself. The moment she knows someone calm and confident is in charge, you can almost see her exhale. That’s when her true personality shines through: soft, affectionate, and wonderfully devoted.

One of Willow’s most endearing traits is how closely she wants to be involved in your day. She’s an excellent “supervisor,” quietly following you from room to room, just happy to be nearby. She loves relaxed car rides, slow sniff-filled walks in quiet areas, and long stretches of downtime once she feels safe in her environment. Her off switch is impressive, and she settles easily when she trusts her surroundings.

Willow is house trained, walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and is muzzle trained. She can be crated when needed, though she prefers being close to her people whenever possible. Loud or unpredictable noises can make her uneasy, and she does best in a calm, structured home where expectations are clear and consistent.

She is reactive to other dogs, which comes from fear rather than aggression. When unfamiliar dogs get too close too quickly, she may bark or posture to create space. With a steady, confident handler, she responds well to redirection and continues to make progress. Because shared spaces can be stressful for her, Willow would thrive best as the only dog in the home. While she has lived around cats and managed with careful introductions, a pet-free home would give her the greatest sense of security and peace.

Willow is wonderful with people and has done very well with children ages eight and up. She’s affectionate with guests, eager for attention, and doesn’t show stranger danger. She simply wants to be included and reassured that she’s safe.

Willow is healthy, though not yet spayed, and her greatest need isn’t medical—it’s emotional. She’s looking for a calm, confident adopter who understands that leadership can be gentle and reassuring. In the right home, where she doesn’t have to worry about other animals and can rely on her human to guide her through the world, Willow blossoms into an incredibly loyal, loving companion. For someone who wants a deeply bonded, people-focused Great Dane and is willing to be her steady anchor, Willow will give everything she has in return.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
