My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.(Sending an "Inquiry" via Petfinder does not constitute an application.)

Raine is a one-year-old black and white Border Collie mix whose life wasn’t very pleasant. She was found dumped in the country with four other Border Collies — frightened, severely underweight, and painful matted coats. It was clear none of them had known much kindness or safety. Mokan BC Rescue gave Raine a second chance, and now she’s learning what it means to be loved.

Raine has likely never lived inside a home before, so the world as we know it is still very new to her. Despite this, she is housebroken and trying hard to learn the routines of indoor life. She watches her foster mom closely, learning manners one step at a time, doing her best to understand what’s expected of her. Raine has gone from a sack of bones to a more healthy 48 lbs.

Raine is a gentle soul who needs a patient, calm adopter willing to let her move through life at her own pace. New people, noises, and experiences can be overwhelming, and when she’s scared she may retreat rather than react. With slow introductions, she does well with women, men, and respectful children, though a home with dog savvy kids over 6 would be best. She does experience some separation anxiety, but with consistency and reassurance, she’s already making progress.

She is comfortable in a kennel and finds security in a hard plastic crate — a safe place where she can relax and feel safe. A home with Border Collie experience is a must, as Raine will thrive with someone who understands her breed’s sensitivity and intelligence.

Once Raine feels safe, her sweetness truly shines. She is slowly building trust with her people and enjoys quiet companionship. She loves Kong toys and can happily entertain herself. With daily exercise and mental stimulation, she settles nicely and has a wonderful off switch indoors. She’s learning that not everything needs to be scary — and that humans can be trusted.

Raine is learning her basic commands and already does well with sit and down. She is working on stay, wait, and recall are coming along slowly, as she gains confidence. She’s also learning that jumping when excited isn’t polite, even when she’s happy to see you. Raine would probably like a calm confident dog, to run, play and show her the good life.

The outdoors is Raine’s happy place. She absolutely loves being outside, soaking in fresh air and sunshine. She’s not yet interested in balls or frisbees, but that may change as she grows more confident. She walks well on leash in familiar areas, though new environments can still be intimidating. A harness and second safety leash will help keep her secure as she continues learning. She may enjoy hikes or runs, eventually, but for now she needs gentle guidance and reassurance. Dog parks are not a good fit for her at this time. Raine will need a fence to keep her safe.

Raine’s coat is now growing back in soft and healthy, and she enjoys being brushed — a small but meaningful reminder of how far she’s come.

Raine is looking for someone who will celebrate small victories, offer patience instead of pressure, and give her the time she needs to be the best dog she can be. In return, Raine will give quiet loyalty, companionship, deep trust, and endless love.

Raine is UTD on all vaccines, spayed, on flea, tick and Heartworm preventative.

If you like the shy and fearful dogs, have patience, love the training, knowing the reward comes in bits and pieces, Raine may be the dog for you! You can apply to meet Raine by completing an application at MoKanbcrescue.org

Raine is being fostered in the Wichita, KS area.
