My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Carter isn't broken, just bounced around.

Carter is a beautiful 6-year-old, neutered male Golden Retriever, bounced around more than any dog whose heart is wired for love and loyalty should be. Prior to coming to us he suffered: a rehome, a divorce, a foster situation, a failed adoption - where expectations were rushed and his need for patience to decompress was non-existent. That’s a lot for any dog. Especially one who just wants to belong.

In just two days in the care of one of our board members, he’s already reminding us why Goldens are so special—soft eyes, gentle presence, a heart that still wants to trust. He’s not “broken.” He’s tired. He’s confused.

What he needs now is not another whirlwind🌪️.
He needs a soft place to land.

A calm, experienced forever home—someone who understands that trust isn’t immediate after repeated goodbyes. A home that understands decompression isn’t a luxury—it’s ESSENTIAL. Someone who will let him breathe. Let him settle - without expectations, without pushing, and without rushing the bond.
His heart has been broken, but it is still open. 💛

With patience and stability, Carter will be the kind of dog who stays close, loves deeply, and proves—once again—why Goldens are truly the best.

If you are ready to give your heart and get a golden heart in return, and the ability to offer Carter a soft place to land, he needs you now. Because loyalty like this shouldn’t keep getting passed over.

Carter will be adopted to a home with a secure yard for safe playtimes. Carter is neutered, Microchipped and vaccinated included in his adoption donation.

More about this rescue

We are a committed group of dog lovers who have decades of experience in dog rescue, volunteering at animal shelters and owning rescue dogs. Most recently, our two founders, have been working with rescuing dogs from Mexico and the Asian dog meat trade as well as California kill shelters, Midwest puppy mill breeder releases and rehoming owner surrendered dogs in Washington and Oregon.

Deciding that we are able to rescue more by combining forces, Pacific Rim Rescue was formed. Our mission is to rescue dogs from devastating conditions from countries of the Pacific Rim.

We are committed to providing foster homes, veterinary and behavioral training for these dogs, so that they may live happy and fulfilling lives in their forever homes.
