My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Winnebago.

Winnebago is a sweet, social green-cheek conure with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He originally came from a loving home where he was very bonded to his person and spent a lot of time out of his cage learning tricks, talking, and just being part of daily life. Due to life changes, his owner was no longer able to give him the time he needed, and he came into STAR so he could find a home that better fits his social nature.

Winnebago is a very people-oriented bird who truly enjoys being part of whatever is going on around him. He loves being out of his cage and spending time nearby, whether that means sitting on a shoulder, hanging out on a perch while someone works, or climbing around his play stand. He is happiest when he is included and can see his people. He will do best in a home where he has plenty of out of cage time and treated like part of the family.

He is a friendly bird who enjoys head scratches and affection once he is comfortable with you. With new people, he can be a little cautious at first and may act unsure or give warning signs if he feels pushed, but his body language is easy to read and he is very communicative. Once trust is built, he becomes a total lovebug. He especially enjoys playful interaction, silly noises, and back-and-forth “conversations” with his people.

Winnebago can talk and has a few phrases, including “pretty bird” and his name. He also has happy chirps that he uses when he is feeling playful, and he loves when people mimic them back to him. Overall, he is a relatively quiet bird, though he does have moments of louder flock calling, especially if he feels left out or is ready to start his day. These moments are very manageable once his routine is understood.

He enjoys toys, especially ones he can perch on or rub his beak against, and he loves climbing on different levels of perches and play stands. He also enjoys bells, light chewing, and exploring his environment. He is not overly destructive and is more curious than rough. Bath time is on his terms and he prefers a small fountain or dish that he can choose to use when he wants.

Winnebago eats Zupreem FruitBlend daily and enjoys fresh fruits, especially grapes. He also likes Nutriberries. He is not a strong flyer and mostly uses short flights to get from one place to another. He was previously clipped and now flies minimally and with purpose, but we are hopeful that with practice he will rebuild those flight muscles and continue improving his flying skills.

He would do best in a home where someone is around for a good portion of the day and enjoys interacting with their bird. He does well in both quieter and moderately active homes, as long as he is included and not left alone for long stretches. He is neutral to other animals and tends to be curious rather than reactive.

Winnebago is a joyful, engaging little bird with a lot of personality. He thrives on connection, routine, and gentle interaction, and he will absolutely reward his person with affection, laughter, and companionship. He is the kind of bird who truly wants to be part of your world.
