My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A volunteer writes:
Poochkie is a beautiful 6-year-old spayed female with a stunning muted tortico coat-a delicate blend of tortoiseshell and calico markings that makes her as unique as she is lovely. This elegant girl found herself at our shelter through the most heartbreaking circumstance: the loss of her beloved owner.

The grief was written all over her. For days, Poochkie retreated to the back of her cubby, frozen in sadness, barely eating, and unable to respond to our staff and volunteers who so desperately wanted to comfort her. We suspect her poor dental health may be adding to her discomfort, and she'll need some dental care to help her feel her best again.

But yesterday brought a glimmer of hope. With soft pate, warm broth, and gentle words, Poochkie slowly emerged from her shell. She ate well, leaned into loving pets, and offered the sweetest purrs-perhaps feeling, for the first time since her world turned upside down, a little bit like home again.

This elegant lady has so much love left to give. Poochkie is a gentle soul who would make her new family incredibly blessed to call her their forever friend. She's looking for a patient, understanding home where she can continue to heal and blossom into the affectionate companion she's meant to be.

Poochkie is laying curled up in the back of her den, resting her head on her front paws with dilated pupils and a tense body. She allows all petting and leans in slightly when she is pet on the head and cheeks but remains tense as she is pet. Poochkie is unable to be coaxed out of the den, so pickup is unable to be attempted, however she is tolerant of light pressure applied to the sides of her abdomen and under her chest.

Poochkie tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
