Temperament with:
Dogs: Lives with a few but needs VERY slow introductions
Cats: Unknown
Children list specific ages: Probably older kiddos as she likes to jump

Training Needs:
Crate Trained: Yes and absolutely LOVES her crate!
Potty Trained: Yes
Kia is a low rider pittie (coming just up to knee height) with a gentle soul who is still learning what safety truly feels like. It is very clear from her behavior that she was abused by people in her past and used for breeding. Because of this, Kia is sensitive to loud voices and raised arms and cannot live in a home where yelling occurs. She needs a calm, patient household where she can feel secure and respected.
Despite her past, Kia is incredibly sweet and affectionate. She loves belly rubs and happily rolls over for affection once she feels comfortable. She’s a low-energy girl, and one walk a day easily meets her needs. Like many pitties, she can get excitable and may jump during happy moments, but she settles down quite quickly and enjoys relaxing the rest of the time.
Kia truly excels at downtime. She spends most of her day napping in a cozy bed or curled up in her crate, which is her safe space and her favorite place to be. She eagerly runs to her crate every chance she gets and is perfectly content snoozing the day away. Because of this, Kia is an excellent match for someone with long work hours, as she’s happy to relax and rest in her crate while you’re away.
She enjoys car rides and will gladly hop in and out of the truck. Around the house, Kia is easygoing and trustworthy—she is not destructive, does not counter surf, and can be left out. She’s generally on the quiet side and does well during bath time.
Kia spent just under a year in the shelter, which had a lasting impact. She is friendly with other dogs but struggles to fully trust them at this time. Dog introductions must be done very slowly, and working with a professional trainer is strongly recommended. Her foster continues to help her rebuild confidence and trust.
Kia is also still learning what food security means and may snatch treats or scarf down meals, but with patience and consistency, she continues to improve.
Kia is searching for a calm, compassionate home where her boundaries are respected and her need for peace is understood. In return, she offers quiet companionship, deep loyalty, and endless belly-rub moments.
If you’re looking for a mellow companion who just wants a safe place to rest and be loved, Kia may be the perfect fit!

MISSION
Our mission is to be a voice and a home for dogs and cats who do not have one. To provide love, care, and shelter for those who have never had it or have lost it. We believe all animals are deserving. We will rescue, protect, vet, and provide hope as we search for loving forever homes for all animals that come into our care.
PURPOSE
Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue, based in Lemont, IL, is dedicated to rescuing, vetting, and rehoming animals from shelters and other abandoned situations. Operated by dedicated volunteers and supported by foster families and sponsors, our goal is to provide the necessary veterinary care, grooming, and love while finding them forever homes.
GOALS
Successfully rescue and rehome dogs and cats from kill shelters and other abandoned situations.
Spay/neuter all animals that come into our care.
Grow a foster and volunteer network.
Support and educate the community of the importance of spay and neuter.
Keep pets with their families by providing assistance with pet food, training, vetting, or any other pet related issue, in order to keep them together and out of the shelter.
Educate adults and children to build awareness, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of spay and neuter for all animals.
Advocate for stronger laws regarding animal welfare, cruelty, and puppy mills/pet stores.
Help decrease the homeless/abandoned animal population to in turn reduce euthanasia rates at shelters and animal control organizations.
PHILOSOPHY
Successful RWAR adoptions depend on strong relationships with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and trainers. Through these relationships we will be able to rescue hundreds of animals every year and provide them with loving temporary care and carefully-matched forever homes.
SUPPORT
Best Friend’s Animal Society NO-KILL 2025 Goal
Reaching no-kill by 2025 means that every shelter in our country is getting the community support it needs to save every dog and cat who can be saved. *When a shelter is saving at least 90% of dogs and cats entering that shelter, it is designated as no-kill.*
