My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Snowberry

BREED: Maltese

DOB: Mar 2, 2018 (7 years 10 months)

Home Recommendation: Snowberry is doing better every day, but she is still in the process of opening up and learning what it means to truly feel safe. She would thrive in a calm, patient home with someone who understands that healing takes time. Snowberry does have a mammary mass that will be removed but thankfully she is unbothered by it. With consistency, gentle reassurance, and lots of love, Snowberry will continue to blossom and show her sweet, trusting heart.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Snowberry spent her entire life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill. When her 'breeders' decided they no longer had a use for her, they planned to discard her. Thankfully, WISE was able to step in and rescue her giving her a second chance to experience the love and warmth of a real home. Now shes ready to start that new chapter!

Personality: Snowberry is truly the sweetest, most docile baby girl with a gentle soul. She is beginning to build confidence, though she still has a long journey ahead, and every small step she takes is a beautiful one. She bonds deeply with those she trusts and thrives on quiet affection and reassurance. So a patient, understanding home that can continue helping her feel safe and supported will be incredibly important for her continued growth.

KIDS: Yes, kids 10+

DOGS: Yes

CATS: Yes

Training: Snowberry is still learning about the world and making steady progress. She is currently very afraid of the leash and tends to freeze when it is on, but we are gently working on helping her become more comfortable with it. She feels safer going outside in a quiet yard where she can have a bit more personal space and take her time finding the right spot. She does wonderfully with her crate and chooses to sleep there, though she prefers it not be fully closed and likes knowing her people are nearby. In the early mornings, she sometimes asks for a cuddle. She is fine being left alone for periods of time, especially with the company of another dog. Around other pups, she is curious but very timid and continues to build confidence at her own gentle pace.
