My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SCRUB MOMMY — The Senior Sweetheart Who Puts the “Soft” in Scrub

Fostered in Burlington County, NJ
Adoption Areas: NY, NJ, CT, PA, ME, VT, VA, DE, MD, RI, NH
Fully vetted • Spayed • Microchipped
Age: 11 years Weight: 10 lbs
Apply at houndsinpounds.org

Meet Scrub Mommy, the tiniest, scruffiest, most delightfully disheveled little lady we’ve ever rescued. At just 10 pounds, she looks like someone whispered “bedhead” and she said, “Say less.” Her scruff has personality. Her whiskers have opinions. Her entire aesthetic is “adorable senior who woke up cute and stayed that way.”

And beneath all that glorious scruff? Pure sweetness. Scrub Mommy is gentle, polite, and happiest when curled up on your lap like a warm, fuzzy teacup. When we say she’s sweet, we mean sweet — the kind of sweet that makes you talk in a softer voice without realizing it.

Why You’ll Love Her
Good with dogs
Good with cats
Good with kids
The scruffiest dog we’ve ever rescued
Sweet beyond measure
A devoted lap companion

Scrub Mommy is officially accepting applications for her retirement home — a cozy, calm place where she can nap, snuggle, and be adored for the tiny, scruffy treasure she is.

Additional adoption info

Our mission is to find the best possible homes for the animals in our care. Many of them have been through severe hardship, mistreatment or neglect, and that makes it even more important that we do our best for them. This means that we have to have guidelines because not every adopter is right for every animal. We try to do right by every person who comes our way looking for a new family pet. But sometimes we have to say “no” to a potential adopter. Our animals do not have a say in where they go; since we speak for those who have no voice, we must do it well. Our rejection of an adoption application is no reflection on the adopter. Everyone who wants to adopt an animal from a shelter or rescue group is special because they open their homes to those in need. But, while we try to meet the needs of everyone, our clients are the animals. They have no one else. We appreciate your understanding.

More about this rescue

The mission of Hounds in Pounds (HIP), is to end the daily killing of thousands of adoptable dogs in the United States. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New Jersey and Georgia and we rely 100% on donations.

HIP has a multi-faceted approach to achieving our mission, combining rescue, adoption, spay/neuter outreach and public education. Dogs rescued by Hounds in Pounds are transported to private veterinarians for proper medical treatment, where they are vetted, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and tested for heartworm before being placed into new, loving homes. We work as a team, communicating from sunrise to sundown to manage the many moving pieces that make our work successful.

Each dog we pull to safety is a member of our family and is treated with the utmost love and respect. We are a lifeline for thousands of dogs that otherwise wouldn’t stand a chance. Many of the dogs we rescue are cases that no one else will take, as our motto at HIP is to “never say never”. To be clear, we are working for them. These dogs are our heroes, and we look to them for hope, inspiration and sometimes the strength to keep going. We also consider our followers, donors, adopters, rescue partners and the rescue community a direct extension of our team. Without each of these moving parts, Hounds in Pounds wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

As one can imagine, the costs associated with running an operation of this magnitude are extraordinary. We fulfill our mission by collaborating with local shelters, veterinarians, boarding facilities, transporters, and local businesses, and through the generosity of donors and supporters. It is thanks to our dedicated volunteers and the benevolent donations of our HIP family of supporters that any of this is possible.
