This sweet 4½-year-old girl came to our facility in Newark after her owner sadly passed away. While we don’t know much about her past, we do know one very important thing: Pickles is deeply bonded with her older brother, Cucumber.
These two share a special connection that’s clear to everyone who meets them. They find comfort in each other during quiet moments, relax side by side, and gain confidence just by knowing the other is close. After experiencing such a big life change, their bond has been a steady source of security and reassurance. Keeping them together would mean preserving that sense of familiarity, safety, and love they’ve always known.
Despite everything, Pickles has stayed happy, calm, and content—especially when staff and volunteers stop by to give her attention. She’s a gentle soul who leans into affection and blossoms even more when Cucumber is nearby.
Pickles isn’t just looking for a new home—she’s hoping for a home where she and her best friend can start their next chapter together. 💚

Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused, or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.
