My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Frederick, MD:
Meet Poppers! 💛
Poppers is a 4-year-old orange tabby gentleman with the heart of a teddy bear and the appetite of a tiny lion. At 17lbs of pure ginger perfection, he’s playful, affectionate, quietly funny, and very, very handsome. He loves taking photos (especially when told he’s adorable), making biscuits, and soaking up gentle pets that make his purr motor rev.
Poppers is a cozy roommate type — he’ll snooze for hours, stretch dramatically, then wander over to lay beside you on the couch or curl up at the foot of the bed at night. He greets his person after work with happy affection, enjoys being brushed, and loves watching “Cat TV” out the window. Birds, squirrels, neighborhood cats—he finds them all fascinating. In the warmer months, balcony lounging is his happy place. 💛
He’s also a playful guy who enjoys wand toys, strings, catnip mice, boxes (chewing included), and anything that encourages his inner kitten. If enrichment, naps, and snacks are offered, he considers that a perfect day.
When it comes to other pets and kids, Poppers is gentle and respectful. He has lived with a young child since kittenhood and prefers to hang out nearby rather than cuddle kids directly—but he truly cares about them. If a little one is upset, he’ll hover and check in like a furry emotional support nanny. With other animals, he does best with a slow, polite introduction, but he can absolutely coexist and thrive with friendly pets.
Ideal Home:
Poppers would love a calmer home that respects his personality—gentle voices, cozy corners to hide in if needed, and a sunny window to supervise the outdoors. He is indoor-only, litterbox perfect, healthy, up to date on vetting, and negative for FIV/FeLV.
His Quirks (aka the cute stuff):
Poppers is a sensitive soul. Loud noises and big disruptions make him retreat to his comfort spaces until things settle. He prefers affection on his terms and can be shy in new environments, but patience brings out his sweetest self. Once he trusts you, you get biscuits, purrs, balcony companionship, and kisses. 🧡
His current owner loves him deeply and has tried for years to work through severe allergies, but unfortunately they haven’t improved. This rehoming is truly about finding Poppers a home where he can continue to thrive.
If you’re looking for a gentle, goofy, window-watching companion who loves quietly being part of your world, Poppers might just be your guy. 🧡🐾
We (FFOCAS) are helping Poppers’ current owner find him a loving forever home. For everyone’s safety, an application process is required. If you’re interested in handsome Poppers or would like more details, please email ffocasfelicia@gmail.com or adoptapet for questions or an application.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The pets listed here are available through our facilitated rehoming program, Project Hope. We aim to help pet parents safely rehome their pets when they can no longer care for them. The adoption process is similar to what you'd experience with a typical rescue organization. Feel free to reach out to ask for more details. On a separate page, we list the cats available through our special needs cat rescue program.

More about this rescue

Frederick Friends of Our County Animal Shelter (FFOCAS) is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit "friends" group helping our local county-run animal shelter. On this page, we list the pets available through our facilitated rehoming program, Project Hope. We aim to help pet parents safely rehome their pets when they can no longer care for them. Reducing intake at our partner shelter saves lives in two ways: (1) by ensuring that pets rehomed through Project Hope never enter the shelter and (2) by leaving more time and resources available at the shelter for those pets who do go to the shelter. In addition to Project Hope, we have our Cats with Character program, through which we take in primarily special needs kitties who are not doing well at our partner shelter, and Brooke's Medical Fund, through which we cover veterinary costs for shelter pets. Check out our website for more information!
