My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Forest 🌲

At 13 years young, Forest recently came to the shelter with his “sister,” Daisy, after their owner passed away. This sweet senior gentleman is still adjusting to all the changes, but his gentle soul shines through. Forest absolutely loves head scratches and will happily soak up all the affection you’re willing to give—just keep the love focused up front, as he prefers not to have his back end touched.

Through all the upheaval, Forest remains kind, calm, and quietly loving. He’s a handsome old soul who deserves a soft place to land and a human who understands that seniors have preferences too—and that’s part of what makes them so special. 🐾💕

Adoption hours are 7 days a week from 12pm to 430pm at 2960 Shafto Road Tinton Falls.

More about this shelter

The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.

For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused, or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.

The Society is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.
