Houndour is a 9-month-old youngster weighing about 35 pounds who is doing wonderfully in foster care. Though he was very skittish on his first day at BARCS and needed time to decompress, he made impressive progress almost immediately—by the first evening, he was cuddling and gently eating treats from his foster’s hand. Each day since, his confidence has continued to grow.
This fun-loving pup is highly food-motivated, making training a rewarding bonding experience, with cuddles coming in a close second. He’s already showing how smart and adaptable he is—after just a few days in his foster home, Houndour has had zero bathroom accidents. He’s on a consistent schedule, going outside every three hours and pottying right away with little encouragement. His confidence around routines continues to improve.
Houndour is still learning basic puppy manners, including polite leash walking, sitting for treats, and keeping all four paws on the ground, but he’s at the perfect age to soak up training with consistency and positive reinforcement. He’s currently thriving in a quiet foster home without children or other animals, which has helped him settle and feel safe. He’s still wary of strangers and may use his voice when scared, but with gentle desensitization and patience—especially around loud noises—his personality is expected to continue blossoming.
At home, Houndour enjoys frequent small meals, cozy naps (especially near a warm radiator), and building trust with his people. He has met other dogs at BARCS and does best with gentle canine pals.
With structure, reassurance, and love, Houndour has all the ingredients to grow into a confident, affectionate companion. If you’re looking for a young dog with curiosity, potential, and a sweet, cuddly side, Houndour could be the perfect match.
Houndour is currently in the comfort of a foster home. If you’re interested in meeting him, please complete an adoption application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps.
