My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hiya! My name is SOLEI and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Terrier Mix (wire-haired)

  • Age: Approximately 1.5 years

  • Gender: Female

  • Weight: 39.5 lbs (18 kg)

  • Height: 51 cm (paws to shoulders), 61 cm (paws to top of head)

  • Length: 71 cm (nose to butt)

  • Neck Circumference: 36 cm

  • Chest Circumference: 63 cm

  • Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - I was living on the street, where I gave birth to six puppies. I was reported near a taco place in the southern part of the city, where sadly, the residents were trying to get rid of me simply because I was hungry and trying to keep my puppies safe. Luckily for me, I was rescued along with my puppies. We were all taken to the vet for check ups and other than fleas and some malnutrition, we were all healthy.  All of my puppies have been adopted and now I'm waiting for a family of my own!

TEMPERAMENT - Despite my time living as a stray and all I endured out there, I am not particularly nervous or shy. I'm very friendly with people and dogs from the get-go. I don't pull away when a human tries to pet me and I get more and more comfortable with the pets as time goes on. I'm a big fan of belly rubs (video). I looove to go for walks and have lots of energy at the start. Just a gal with a zest for life! I like getting pets and attention from people, even if I don't know them. I am affectionate and playful and am even good with kiddos! I haven't displayed any resource guarding around food at the shelter and I enjoy playing with other dogs (big and small). Once I'm sufficiently tuckered out, I am very content to snooze and chillax. I currently sleep in a crate at the shelter and find it to be my quiet, safe space.

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I’m a young, medium energy gal! I will need daily mental and physical stimulation to meet my energy needs, but after I've been sufficiently exercised, I will be happy to snooze and relax with you at home.

GETS ALONG WITH:

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Work in progress! When I initially walk out of the shelter, I have a lot of energy and pull quite a bit on the leash. I just want to smell and explore everything around me, what can I say! After walking for a bit, I find my stride and get better at walking at a slower pace.  I'm looking for adopters who are willing to work on my leash skills with me, but don't worry, my rescuers say I'm a quick study and oh so smart! A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success!  Oh, I'm also not startled by loud noises from cars or motorcycles, so I'm pretty darn resilient! Check out videos of me on a leash here and here.

  • House trained – Work in progress. Living in a busy shelter with 100+ dogs, I don't get the 1-on-1 attention needed to become truly housetrained (although I do prefer to do my business outside when possible!) Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750 CAD + 5% GST and 7% PST), which includes my airfare to Vancouver.
