My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pepper — Professional Snuggler, Treat Helicopter Tail Enthusiast 🐕

Do you believe in love at first treat? Pepper sure does. This stunning shepherd/lab-ish girl has soft caramel fur, natural eyeliner that would make a makeup influencer jealous, and a heart that’s just waiting to burst into zoomies once she feels comfy. She is the kind of girl who loves quietly at first. She might peek at you from behind her favorite human, tail giving the tiniest wag… testing the waters to see if you might be her person. But once you pass her secret “Are you safe and kind?” checklist, her whole heart just blooms for you. Suddenly you’ve got a snuggle buddy, a shadow, and a best friend who thinks you hung the moon.

Pepper has been living in a foster home for a year now and has totally mastered the art of being a Very Good House Dog™. She’s crate trained (her kennel is her spa), walks like a cloud on leash, rides politely in the car, and has never once looked at a shoe and thought “snack.” She’s a quiet roommate, a respectful couch hog, and an expert bed-flopper.

Watch Pepper’s video here: https://youtu.be/pNvGIcd3qAk?si=iY5rvROzkBGUpHCf

She currently lives with four dogs, multiple cats, AND foster kittens — and she’s basically the dorm RA who keeps the peace. She loves her dog friends and looks up to the big, confident ones like they’re her personal life coaches. She’ll roll over, give little kisses, and say “lead the way, bestie!” She even hangs out on the bed with the cats like a chill queen who minds her business.

Pepper also has kid-fan club membership! She lives with kids (ages 8–15) and happily accepts belly rubs, bed snuggles, and compliments on her beauty, but this all comes with time! She loves gentle kiddos who let her warm up at her own pace. She will do best with older children who have good impulse control, can give her space when she asks for it, and can let her warm up at her own pace. Once she feels safe, she’s all in — heart eyes, snuggle mode, full commitment. Kids in her forever home should also understand that Pepper isn’t a fan of chaos or surprise hugs… she does best with gentle hearts like her own.

Now — this is where Pepper gets a teensy bit shy. New people and new places = “uh oh, I need a minute.” She starts out cautious and reserved, but once she decides you’re her human? GAME OVER. She’ll follow you everywhere, cuddle into your side, and wag her tail in a full-blown helicopter spin anytime snacks appear. She bonds slow but she loves HARD.

Since dogs are her emotional support squad, Pepper needs a confident, happy-go-lucky dog buddy, or a few (the more the merrier!), in her forever home to show her the ropes and help her feel brave. She’s super dog-friendly, but anxious dogs aren’t her vibe — she’s looking for a “life is good!” role model.

Apartment or house? Both work! Pepper’s quiet, easy on leash, she just needs a cozy place to decompress, a dog friend to follow, and people who celebrate every new step of bravery she takes. ✨

Pepper isn’t the “instant best friend” kind of dog… she’s the “best friend for LIFE” kind of dog. If you’re ready to cherish a girl who blooms slowly into a snuggly, silly, treat-dancing lovebug…

Pepper is ready to be your heart dog. 💛🐾

At our 2 acre Texas based property, we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group training and socialization play groups helping them stay confident, well rounded, and adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers are dedicated to each dog’s growth and we enjoy seeing their progress!

We go above and beyond to ensure every animal receives exceptional care. Veterinarians consistently praise our medical standards. From routine care to advanced treatments, each dog receives personalized attention. Hard costs for a healthy dog range from $804-$920; heartworm-positive dogs or those needing specialized care can exceed $2,000+. Adoption fees help cover a portion of these expenses, but without government funding, we rely on fundraising to bridge the gap—ranging from $100–$1,000+ per dog.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
