My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*Fostered in the Hamilton region*Apply to adopt at rebeldogrescue.com*All adoptions with Rebel Dog Rescue have a 15 day probation period. Read about our adoption process on our website.

Little Rue is as sweet as they come! She is snuggle bug and loves to bury herself in blankets and pillows. She is people orientated and happiest when she is curled up with you. You better be ready to give endless belly rubs because she will always be rolling onto her back for a good scratch. Rue is very food motivated and is a smart girl - she knows Sit, Down, and Wait for food. Rue's housetraining is a work in progress - she is puppy pad trained but due to extreme cold, outside training has been unpredictable. Rue is not a fan of the cold! Rue loves people and will greet you with a wagging tail. She is a sensitive girl, and will 'pancake' if she perceives being in any kind of trouble or is scared. Her outside walking has been slow to progress due to the cold, but will need leadership in learning how to walk outside in new environments. Early into fostering, she gave her big foster brother a small growl when she was getting affection and he walked by, but with structure, they have become friends. Rue will need a family willing to give her boundaries, and not succumb to her endless charm! Rue is a little angel - she is the perfect pup to keep you warm on these frigid winter nights!

Name: Rue

Breed: Mixed Breed

Age: ~6-8 months

Weight: ~15lb and growing

Sex: Female, neutered

Colour: Black and white

Good with men: Yes, friendly

Good with women: Yes, friendly

Good with kids 0-6: Unknown, not tested

Good with kids 7-15: Yes, has lived with children and does well. Rue loves kids and enjoys playing with them. She appears to enjoy their energy and fun. Due to her smaller stature, dog savvy children that can keep respectful and safe play would be best. Also, due to her puppyhood, kids that can keep floors clean and unsafe items away from her is required.

When the dog meets new people she...Approaches happily/neutral, Wants affection, Will pancake

Good with dogs: Yes, happy to co-exist with other dogs

How does this dog react to meeting new dogs? Loose body language, Neutral - will say hello nicely

What type(s) of dogs does this dog prefer/be best with? Rue lives with a XL senior male and medium female. With slow and structured introductions, she co-exists with them well. Fed separately in crates. Rue approaches them with a gentle and easy manner, and is respectful of them setting boundaries. Boisterous dogs may be too much for her, but she does seem to enjoy following her pack while learning how to 'dog'.

Good with Cats: Unknown, not tested

Crate training: Must be placed in crate/may enter with coaxing, Settles after some barking/whining

House trained: No - working on it

Resource Guarding: No

Walks on a leash: Nervous and needs coaxing

Energy level: Medium

Areas to work on: Needs confidence building, Fearful of loud noises, Walking nicely on a leash

What type of environments would NOT be suitable for the dog? Condo/apartment

Any noted separation anxiety?Rue typically does well in her crate. She will sometimes cry if she needs to go out. Other times, she can cry wanting to be with you, but she can easily be corrected with a 'No' or 'Ah Ah'. Owners will need to be mindful of her cues if she is trying to alert to go outside.

Barker: Average

What would be the ideal home for this dog?Rue would thrive in many households. She would love a family committed to helping her develop confidence outside on walks as she learns about the world, and providing structure/further training.

Additional adoption info

R.E.B.E.L Dog Rescue is looking for committed adopters, ready to bring a rescue dog into their life. In order to ensure that we find the best homes for our dogs, adoption applicants must go through an adoption approval process. We receive a number of applications for each dog and only one will be chosen as the successful candidate. Candidates are selected based on the dog's needs. Not being selected for the dog that you applied for does not disqualify you from adopting from us in the future.

Go meet their pets

We do our very best to place our dogs into adoptive homes before they arrive into Canada. This ensures that they have a safe and loving place to go after their long journey up North. All dogs adopted through R.E.B.E.L Dog Rescue will receive a 15 day adoption probation period. This period starts the day the dog enters the care of the adopter. This means that the adoptive family has 15 days to determine that dog is a good fit for them. Although it may feel scary to not meet the dog before adopting, the 15 day period allows you to get to know the dog within your home. If you buy a dog off of Kijiji or at a local shelter you may be given a couple hours to meet the dog. We believe that our program's 15 day probation provides much more insight into how he or she will fit into your home, rather than. a brief meet and greet.
