My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Spike!

Spike is a 5-year-old Tennessee boy who weighs just 30 pounds truly the perfect size for almost any home. Hes past the high-maintenance puppy stage but still has plenty of love, personality, and playful spirit left to share with his forever family.

Spike has the look of a shepherd mix, with his pricked ears, alert expression, and wedge-shaped head, just on a smaller scale. His shorter legs suggest a strong corgi influence, which helps explain his compact size. This type of mix is very common in rescue dogs and is often known for producing smart, loyal, and easy-to-handle companions. Spike recently attended a pet adoption event and impressed everyone with his sweet nature and his ability to get along well with other dogs. He walks well on leash and very much enjoyed his handler's attention. He takes new situations in stride and enjoys being around people, making him a wonderful candidate for a variety of home environments.

Spike is quickly becoming a favority to take to pet store events. He was allowed to visit the cat area and exhibited mild curiousity and the feeling was mutual. His handler thought he may have been raised with cats as he exhibits some typical cat behaviors such as leaning and backing up to you.

If youre looking for a friendly, manageable-size dog with a great temperament, Spike might be the perfect match for you. Apply to adopt at www.caninecollective.org

Our adoption process takes several steps and cannot be completed in one day. All of our volunteers work full time and assist the rescue in their spare time. Please allow 2-3 business days for a response.

* Applicants must be willing to make a ten plus year commitment to their new family member.

* Applicants must commit to daily exercise, walks, trips to the dog park or play in the back yard. A well exercised dog is a happy well behaved dog!

* Applicants living in a rental property must provide proof of pet policy from landlord.

* Applicants must provide a veterinarian reference and if there are existing dogs in the household. All pets must be spayed/neutered and current on all shots and heartworm medication.

*Please allow at least a 7-14 day adjustment period for your new dog. Rescue dogs go thru a lot of changes and need a few days to get used to their new surroundings and adjust. Adopting a dog should be a serious commitment, so please be willing to work out the kinks. Our dogs aren't perfect but with proper training and guidance they make awesome, loving pets.

*Our adoption fees vary based on the age and medical needs of the dogs.
