My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Walker is fostered in Waukesha, WI

Meet this young whipper snapper named Walker.  He was surrendered to a networker in IL, who we work with regularly.  He is a gorgeous red merle male Australian Shepherd, who is 7 months old and approximately 30-35 lbs at this time.  We expect him to be 50-55 lbs once full grown.

Walker is a happy, exuberant, mischievous everlasting gobstopper kind of guy!  This young boy loves all humans - big or small - though he is very full of happy energy and will need guidance while interacting with tiny humans. He has some boisterous energy but he is wonderful with a 10-year-old human who happens to be as hyperactive as he is. Walker is very respectful with her.

Walker is great with dogs his size and larger. He has shown some higher prey drive with smaller dogs and cats, so those should not be present in his adoptive home. He is the ultimate snuggle buddy once he has had adequate mental and physical exercise.  Any fluffy toys &/or ropes must be used under close supervision as he is a heavy chewer.  He is a blanket chewer, whether in a kennel or sitting with you on the couch. He can also chew through a nylon leash in 0.2 seconds.

While Walker is a wonderful dog, he will require someone who has prior experience with herding breeds.  Walker is super food motivated and always up for an adventure.  We do recommend his adoptive family consider completing some basic obedience training with him.

Walker is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
