My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Joey is fostered in Ashland, WI

Joey is an affectionate, people-oriented dog who truly thrives on structure, routine, and consistency. When he knows what to expect, he shines and his eagerness to please makes him a joy to work with. Joey is highly intelligent and picks up new skills quickly, especially when positive reinforcement is involved. Making his people happy is what motivates him most.  Joey arrived from a nearby shelter.  He is a male Australian Shepherd mix with a gorgeous tail.  He is estimated to be approximately 6 months old and currently weighing about 40-45 lbs.  We believe there is some Border Collie in there too!  If you have not done your research on Aussies and Border Collies, they require a minimum of 2-3 hours PER DAY of mental and physical stimulation.  Please do your research before commiting to this breed.

Joey is both dog and cat friendly and does wonderfully with adults and children of all ages. He is a classic “velcro dog,” forming strong bonds with his humans and preferring to stay close rather than wander off on his own. His loyalty and connection to his people are some of his most endearing traits.

With a higher energy level, Joey benefits from daily exercise and mental enrichment to keep him happy and balanced. He is naturally curious and may be a little hesitant in new situations at first, but with gentle guidance and time, his confidence builds quickly.

Joey is kennel trained—he will kennel up on cue, lie down, sleep, and eat his meals there although bedtime in the kennel isn’t his favorite. He is 100% potty trained when kept on a consistent routine. He is still working on foundational training, but he already knows “sit” and “lie down” and is eager to continue learning.  Grooming is a breeze with Joey. He sits patiently for brushing, nail trims, and other routine care, making him easy to maintain and handle.  With the right structure, positive reinforcement, and an active home, Joey is set up to thrive. He’s a loving, intelligent companion who will reward his people with unwavering loyalty and a whole lot of heart.

Joey is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org.

NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
