Florence, AKA Flo You might be surprised to learn that I was born at the HSHC 12 years and 9 months ago. I was adopted when I was around 8 weeks old and lived with my owner all my life. Five months ago, my family began doing renovations to the house, big, scary, noisy, changes to my familiar place. When the noisy workers came to the door, I began “barking” at them to make them go away. It was so awful I didn’t know what to do. Then my owner’s health began to fail, and I was returned to HSHC at the end of January. So now I am feeling rather lost, confused, and abandoned. I don’t understand why I am here when I know I am a good girl and I should not be homeless at my age. I am a cat that likes to climb into laps and curl up for a nap. I had a favorite toy llama that I loved carrying around, playing with for hours, and then hiding again for another time. I have lived with dogs and cats, and grandkids. It took me a while to get used to them, but after about a month, I felt comfortable enough to interact with them. To be honest, life was getting to be very stressful for me, and I tried my best to communicate my worries. Little old lady cats are not supposed to be in a shelter. We need to be in a familiar, loving environment where we can feel safe and protected. The HSHC staff can provide you with the information you will need to make my transition to your home successful. I was such a cute little Tortoiseshell baby. I’m still a sweetheart, just a bit sadder than I was in 2013. The interviewer lady thinks I am the perfect pet for a quiet, easy-going household. I agree! 2-6-26

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
