My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION.

To see more pictures and some videos of this dog, please visit our Facebook page and look under “photos” and then “albums”.

7-year-old male Chihuahua/Min Pin(?), about 14 pounds. Brewster is a distinguished gentleman and lovely to have around! He appreciates the finer things in life, primarily warmth. We often find him having burrito'd himself up into any available blankets, and he appreciates cute sweaters. Brewster is mostly low key - he's happy to nap on his own on the couch (with blankets) or on your lap. He can be bouncy and silly sometimes too (you can't help but smile when you catch him rolling around in his favorite blankets). He plays with other dogs on occasion but isn't always up for play time - if another dog is getting up in his business and he'd rather be left alone/given more space, he'll give a quick correction growl, and both dogs seem to move on just fine. Once he's comfortable in his new home, he'll sleep quietly in his crate through the night. He seems potty trained and mostly avoids peeing in the house (only a couple mishaps have been noted, seemingly related to cold-weather aversion and when in an unfamiliar space). Some of Brewster's quirks include: he prances around a bit, staying dainty on his toes. When he shakes out, you see the wave propagate along his whole body, building to an exciting finale when his back legs and tail are shaking with a mind of their own! He can be a little chirpy/whiny when he knows food time is near, or when he's put in his crate for alone time. He can be a bit noisy when left home alone, so apartments/condos are not a great choice for him or your neighbors. We've noticed he gets anxious on car rides and can whimper when he's unsure about his surroundings. We're working with him on staying quieter in those moments when he's feeling on edge (he's been making good progress so far!). He doesn't engage with toys much but is a curious boy and will follow his nose to tasty-smelling things, so make sure all your snacks are secure! For the most part, Brewster is pretty comfortable meeting new people but can shy away if people reach for him too quickly. He's been polite and curious when meeting other dogs on walks. He's good on a leash - Brewster will walk beside you, alongside another dog, or out in front. He does not pull excessively. He's happy to go on walks, and sniff/mark all the interesting shrubbery, though he's sometimes a bit of a wet weather diva, and may take some coaxing to go outside in bad weather. He's VERY excited to be back and immediately bundle up in blankets. We think he'd do fine as an only dog or in a pack of polite dogs. We haven't met many children with him, but we think he'd probably do ok with gentle children. Cats are unknown. To request an adoption application, email smidgetrescue@hotmail.com

Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. 8632781We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.

More about this rescue

Smidget Rescue was founded in December of 2010. We started off saving small dogs off the euthanasia list in California shelters. We have evolved over the years and now concentrate
on local Washington dogs; from local shelters, direct owner surrenders and strays. We have have found homes for over 3000 dogs since inception.

Our mission is to help rehome homeless and unwanted dogs in Washington State by providing the resources to enable proper matchmaking for the dog and the new family. We do not do same day adoptions because our process requires an application process with reference/background and physical home checks. This process ensures we meet the goals of our mission.
