My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION.

To see more pictures and some videos of this dog, please visit our Facebook page and look under “photos” and then “albums”.

1 year old male Chihuahua mix, about 7 pounds. Tito is the sweetest boy you could ever hope to meet. He is a “Velcro dog” and wants to be with his person as much as possible. Snuggling or lap-lounging are his favorite pastimes. Despite his affectionate nature, he does not appear to suffer from separation anxiety. He gets along well with my two smaller chihuahuas. He is quiet when crated at night, and almost never barks. He is a very quiet boy. He is skittish on walks, and fearful when encountering new people or dogs, but we’re working on building his confidence on walks. He is more confident in the home. He learned how to use the dog-door instantly and is good about letting himself out, but we still take him out periodically to remind him. He loves to chew on treats like bully sticks, but can get growly, displaying resource guarding behaviors with other dogs when he has a treat. He will allow his person to take the coveted treat if needed. He loves to fetch toys and play. He likes to hoard toys in his favorite spot. He has been known to jump up on the kitchen table and coffee table. We’re working on correcting that behavior presently. Tito has a good appetite and will eat other dogs’ food if not supervised, so he eats in a “private dining suite”. We’re not sure how he is with cats or children, but due to his timid nature, we would not suggest a home with small children or loud noises. This happy, very affectionate, well-behaved guy will make a great addition to any home. To request an adoption application, email smidgetrescue@hotmail.com

Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. 8632781We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.

More about this rescue

Smidget Rescue was founded in December of 2010. We started off saving small dogs off the euthanasia list in California shelters. We have evolved over the years and now concentrate
on local Washington dogs; from local shelters, direct owner surrenders and strays. We have have found homes for over 3000 dogs since inception.

Our mission is to help rehome homeless and unwanted dogs in Washington State by providing the resources to enable proper matchmaking for the dog and the new family. We do not do same day adoptions because our process requires an application process with reference/background and physical home checks. This process ensures we meet the goals of our mission.
