Cupcake is a gentle soul who has already survived more than any cat ever should. She came to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton as part of one of the most severe neglect cases our team has encountered, where 33 animals were rescued from heartbreaking conditions in Dayton’s Five Oaks neighborhood. After living for an extended period in filth, confinement, and neglect, Cupcake is now finally safe—and beginning her journey toward healing.
Because of what she’s been through, Cupcake is still understandably nervous. She will accept gentle pets and quiet affection, but she’s still learning that hands can bring comfort and love. Trust doesn’t come instantly for her, but you can see that it’s there, slowly growing. With patience, consistency, and kindness, Cupcake has so much potential to come out of her shell and show her true personality.
Cupcake would do best in a calm, quiet home with an adopter who understands that love sometimes takes time. Someone willing to move at her pace, celebrate small milestones, and give her the chance to feel safe again will be rewarded with a very special bond. She’s not demanding—just hopeful for a second chance at the life she deserves.
Cupcake is proof of resilience, and she’s ready to start her next chapter with someone who will show her what kindness truly means. 🧁💞

More about this shelter
The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is proud to be a no-kill animal welfare agency. We are committed to finding great homes for great pets! As a 501(c)(3) nonproft, we receive no government funding and rely solely on donations from individuals, companies and grants to fund our programs and services. We are not affiliated with any other animal agency on a local, state or national level. Since 1902, our organization has been devoted to being a voice for the voiceless. Although we proudly find more than 2,000 animals forever homes every year, we are far more than an adoption center. We currently have a wide array of programs to support animals in our community. Through our high-volume spay and neuter clinic, we are able to help pet owners as well as battle cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return. Our humane society agents also work tirelessly to protect pets from cruel and neglectful circumstances through our Cruelty & Neglect Investigations Department. Through our Veterinary Hospital, we can provide top-quality access to veterinary care at a low cost to pet owners. In addition to our many programs, our organization is unique because we are the only agency in the community able to handle all types of animals. This includes cats and dogs but also rabbits, birds, farm animals, pocket pets and exotics. Our organization is committed to providing our community, our state and our region with support and care.
