Dakota is a 14-month-old terrier mix weighing 23 pounds, with a gentle soul, kind eyes, and one ear that is permanently on duty. His left ear stands proudly at all times, as if it’s monitoring the room while the rest of him quietly sticks close to his favorite people.
Dakota is a full-on velcro dog. If you sit down, he’s in your lap. If you stand up, he’s right behind you. He likes to know where his people are at all times and is happiest when he’s close, preferably touching. Personal space is optional, companionship is not.
He came into rescue with his sister Nyxi when their dad was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment. Through it all, Dakota has remained a sweet, tenderhearted boy who just wants to feel safe.
Dakota does wonderfully with other dogs, truly enjoying their company and playtime, and he also does well with cats. In the home, he is very well house trained and has never been kenneled. He’s used to living as part of the household and settles in easily.
Dakota lived a very quiet, sheltered life, so many everyday experiences are still new to him. He is just beginning to learn how to walk on a leash and is making progress at his own pace. Because a yard is what he knows and where he feels most comfortable, a physically fenced yard is required.
Dakota would do best in a quiet, adult home where life moves at an easy, predictable rhythm. He has not been around small children and prefers a calm environment that matches his gentle nature.
If you’re looking for a loyal shadow with one very expressive ear, enjoy a dog who believes laps are mandatory seating, and find joy in helping a shy dog build confidence, Dakota may be your perfect match
Dakota is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
