My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Poong!

Age: 2 years

Sex: Neutered Male

Breed: Jindo Mix

Color: Brown

Weight: 15kg

Height: 42cm (shoulder)

Rescue Story:

Poong was rescued from a city shelter euthanasia list in July 2025. After staying in a foster home, he moved to the Adoptee Center in mid-November, where he is currently waiting for his forever home

‍‍ With People

Poong tends to be more cautious with new environments rather than with people. When he first arrived at his foster home and the center, he stayed inside his kennel for about half a day before slowly coming out to explore. Once he finishes adjusting to a new place, he becomes much more comfortable and accepts affection very well — even from strangers in familiar environments.

Since learning “sit,” he has developed a very cute habit: whenever he makes eye contact with a person, he automatically sits and waits He absolutely loves training (or maybe just loves treats!), and during weekly training sessions, he happily follows his handler for up to three hours, learning and enjoying snacks.

He can be picked up by placing an arm under his belly, and he has a calm, gentle personality. Even when he wants attention, he approaches people in a quiet and polite way

With Other Dogs

Poong has more of an “introvert” personality and prefers spending time with a few close or comfortable dog friends rather than playing in large groups. He is very gentle and rarely has conflicts with other dogs. Even if another dog provokes him, he usually chooses to avoid the situation. He may express his boundaries once if he gets very annoyed, but overall he is extremely sweet and well-mannered

With Cats

He has not lived with cats before, but shows little interest when seeing cats during walks. Cat testing is possible.

Energy Level

Low energy. Poong enjoys relaxing and staying calm most of the time — a perfect quiet companion

Walking

When he first started walking at his foster home, he was quite nervous and found it difficult. Now he walks well on leash and follows his person nicely, but may still feel scared in very busy areas with lots of people or traffic. When he feels unsure, he usually walks close to his person for comfort ‍

Other Notes

Poong does not guard food with people or other dogs, has no separation anxiety, and does not bark. He is calm in a kennel and is currently potty trained for outdoor bathroom only.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.

Our dog rescue work depends on our flight volunteers. They help us safely bring our dogs from Korea to Vancouver or Toronto airports, where the dogs will find loving forever or foster homes.
