My foster writes: Sun experienced a big life change when he had to say goodbye to the home he shared with his mom and grandma. When he first arrived at the shelter, he tucked himself into a quiet corner, trying to make sense of all the changes. He was wary and sensitive initially, but with slow introductions, positive reinforcement, and plenty of space Sun became an absolute lovebug. I saw his walls start to come down and gave way to a confident and affectionate lap cat who loves being close to people. Watching him learn to trust again has been heartwarming and showcases his true resilience. Sun is fully litter-trained, treat-motivated, and enjoys playtime with wand toys. I would describe him as a "dog-like" cat: loyal, affectionate, and happy to hang out near you, but also totally content doing his own thing when you're busy. While Sun is mostly independent during the day, he can be a little chatty in the early mornings- he has opinions! Providing water/ food overnight and a brief play session (he loves to show off his Olympic-style jumps) before bed time helps him wind down and sleep peacefully through the night. Sun has lived with other cats, but prefers to socialize at his own pace. Around dogs, he's shown gentle curiosity mixed with some understandable caution, but no aggression. Despite everything he has been through, Sun is an incredibly loving soul who just needs time to feel safe again. With patience and a warm lap to curl up in, Sun will absolutely shine in a home with someone who enjoys cuddles, companionship, and a best friend.
A volunteer writes:
SUM is a 6-year-old neutered gentleman who arrived at the Manhattan Care Center alongside his companions Shadow and Mamacat when their owner was displaced. Though initially shy with strangers, SUM quickly warms up and reveals his truly affectionate nature-he adores cuddles, lap time, and being carried in loving arms. Sum was at first shy with me, hesitating to leave his den but when he did after my coaxing, he really was a very sweet and loving kitty. This sweet boy is friendly and playful with other cats, making him a wonderful companion. While SUM may have a heart murmur, cardiac testing (proBNP) shows his heart is functioning well. With his gentle disposition and capacity for love, SUM is ready to bring joy and companionship to his forever family. Ask to meet him when you visit us at the care center!
