My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Theodore!

Theodore came to us as a stray and is an outgoing, highly social pup who loves to approach people with a wagging tail and a wiggly body. He's very enthusiastic for attention and follows handlers eagerly, but he also has a low threshold for arousal: when touched or restrained he can buck, thrash, head-whip, and persistently jump up. Because of this strong reactivity during handling, he does best with someone who understands arousal management and positive training.

My Ideal Home

An experienced, patient adult-only home where handlers can provide consistent positive reinforcement, structure, and daily mental and physical exercise. Theodore will thrive with predictable routines, enrichment like food puzzles and long-lasting chews, and calm, confident leadership to help him learn to stay relaxed during handling and exciting moments. A home committed to training and arousal management is ideal.

Good with Kids?

No. Theodore has a low threshold for arousal and tends to jump up and escalate during handling, so he is not recommended for homes with children (under 13). An adult-only household is preferred.

Good with Other Pets?

Dog introductions observed: Theodore has gate-greeted another dog with a loose, wiggly body, sniffed, and then disengaged-so he can be social with other dogs when introduced calmly. His history with cats is unknown, so any multi-pet home should proceed with careful, gradual introductions and supervision.

Leash Manners

He shows moderate pulling and frequently tries to jump up on people while on leash. He would benefit from continued loose-leash work, rewards for calm behavior, and management tools (front-clip harness, short sessions, clear "off" cue). Stop-and-reward techniques and pattern games to reinforce calm are recommended.

Overall Health

Healthy overall and comfortable in care. Not yet neutered. Routine intake exam clearance on file.

Behavior Determination

Level 4 - Recommended for experienced adopters / adult-only home. Theodore has a low threshold for arousal and has shown bucking, thrashing, and head-whipping when handlers initiate contact. He needs an adopter familiar with behavior modification, arousal management, and positive reinforcement techniques.

Other Fun Facts

Theodore is very social and exuberant - he loves to approach and engage, follows handlers enthusiastically, and enjoys sniffing toys. He responds well to treats and interactive enrichment; long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games help channel his energy in positive ways.
