Meet Olaf

Olaf’s story is nothing short of incredible. This big, brave boy was rescued by a Good Samaritan after falling through the ice of a pond. After spending two months in a shelter, Olaf is now learning what it truly means to be a house dog again—and he is embracing his second chance with his whole heart.

Olaf is completely overjoyed by toys. Stuffed animals beware—he loves tossing them in the air and can happily entertain himself for hours. He enjoys fetch and is learning tug-of-war (he hasn’t quite figured out the “tug” part yet!). His playful spirit is contagious, and his enthusiasm for life is unmatched.

That said, Olaf is EXTREMELY strong and currently has no leash skills. He will need consistent, confident handling and ongoing training. He is working on his manners and learning quickly—he already sits and lays down on command. Potty training is a work in progress, but he's doing well.

Olaf loves affection and will happily press his strong body against you or tuck himself under your legs just to be close. While he may look intimidating, he is truly a soft-hearted boy who wants nothing more than to be your shadow and soak up attention. He is weary of men so will require a slow introduction to adult men at this time.

Olaf needs a strong, experienced giant-breed owner committed to continued training.  Due to his size and strengh, a home with a securely fenced yard and older children is best.

He is not recommended for a first-time giant-breed owner. Olaf will thrive with structure, leadership, and someone who understands the strength and needs of a large working dog. With guidance and consistency, he will continue to mature into a loyal, devoted companion.

Olaf has survived the cold—now he’s ready for a warm, forever home.

More about this rescue

Just Giant Rescue Inc (JGRI) is a dog rescue catering to giant breed dogs. We don’t discriminate against breed, but they must be giants such as the regal Great Dane, loyal Mastiff, and clownish Saint Bernard, to name a few.

We strive to follow the 3 R’s.
• Rescuing. We rescue from all types of situations, owner surrenders, and from local shelters. We strive to help as many as we can, with what resources we have available.
• Rehabilitating. All dogs are fostered inside loving homes, becoming temporary family members. They are fully vet checked, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and guarded against heartworm, fleas and ticks. They are also given a temperament test prior to being eligible for adoption.
• Re-homing. Each dog is individually matched with the best suited adoptive home for them. Each applicant wanting to adopt must fill out an application and complete a home check prior to being approved.
