Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Markus is an affectionate, talkative, 2-year-old cat looking for a loving family.
Markus is a peak example of a house panther. His muscular physique and sleek black coat look like they belong in the jungle, but his sweet personality is perfect for the living room sofa.
Markus loves human attention. He would like to have someone stroke his handsome face for hours per day. He also loves to chit-chat back and forth with his foster family. Markus is outgoing and likes to make friends with every person he meets. He would probably like to live in a home with several people to give him attention.
Markus appeared at an outdoor cat colony, but made it immediately clear that he was a friendly cat that once had a home. When he was injured with a bite on his neck, the caretaker reached out to Markus's foster mom. Luckily, Pet Haven was willing to bring Markus in for vet care and there was room in the foster's home for Markus to recover. The injury is fully healed and Markus is doing great.
Markus has not had direct interaction with the other cats in his foster home, but he doesn't show any negative reaction to their presence. He would probably do well living with another young cat after slow introductions.
Markus loves Churu meat tube treats and he uses the litter box perfectly.
If you’re ready for a loving, sleek, handsome companion, Markus would love to meet you!

All cats have received comprehensive veterinary care and tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV unless otherwise stated. Please note there may be additional follow up visits and boosters that are not covered by Pet Haven after adoption.

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.
Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.
Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer
How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
