Meet Joseph! He was found near the beach on Christmas Eve day, soaking wet from the rain. Joseph appears to be a Shepherd/Husky mix? He weighs 71 lbs and we think he's around 6-8 years old. His grooming seems to have been neglected for quite some time, resulting is thin fur on his back & tail but after some medicated baths, his fur is already starting to grow back. He got to have a kennel break and this is what the handler had to say. “Joseph loaded into the truck bed and rode well. He rides quiet, but does like to bark at dogs while passing. He explores at a leisurely pace and is knowledgeable about the 30’ lead to not get caught around his legs. His recall is better with a whistle combined with the “come” command. His play style is gentle, even if you try and get him to up his energy, he NEVER jumps on you or anyone he meets. Should be a good and safe player with kids. It took nothing to get Joseph to walk next to his handler's side, he walks when you walk and stops when you stop. It takes just small corrections to keep him from marking territory while walking through town, but you will not develop any callouses on your hands walking this boy. He seems interested in other dogs, did not show aggression, but might need to assess more to see if he’s still playful. He did extremely well in all the businesses he visited and made no potty mistakes. He loves praise and affection allowing you to pet him throughout his entire body. The evident lack of care this dog has had to endure (has skin condition not properly addressed, but should grow back with proper care), shows that this kind boy deserves a break in his life, because he still has so much love to offer.”
Joseph does need a home with no access to kitties and isn't a fan of a crate. He did enjoy hanging out in the play yard next to Dino and playing with one of our young female dogs. Joseph is unique, he pumps his tail up & down, instead of wagging it side to side! His new family will need to stay on top of his grooming to allow his fur to continue fill in.
