My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A LITTLE FIRECRACKER:  Approx. 3 years old / Approx. 11 lbs.

Hi there, I’m Samuel! Mostly Mutts rescued me from animal control, and I’m so happy to be in their care.  During the recent icy and snowy weather, I got to spend a few short stays in a temporary foster home and had an absolute blast!  We all enjoyed it so much that whenever they can, they schedule weekend temp. stays with me!  I’m much happier in a home than at the shelter, where I can sometimes show a bit of a bossy, Napoleon-style attitude.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts, and was growly and snappy with them, so Mostly Mutts recommends that I be your only dog.  In the temporary foster home I visit, there are two dogs, and while I have only minimal/controlled contact with them (no shared food, treats, or playtime), we can go into the yard together and relax in the same room with my foster for some lounging time.  Even so, Mostly Mutts still recommends I be your only dog. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet, but Mostly Mutts recommends kids 15+ who will respect my boundaries, so if you have kids like this, let’s meet.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a very different dog in my temp. foster home than I am at the shelter - especially once I’ve had time to decompress and feel safe.  A dog-savvy family like my temp. fosters would be ideal for me.  In their home, I’m an overall happy guy because they gave me some space at first and let me settle in at my own pace.  Now I enjoy playing fetch, soaking up belly rubs and snuggles, and having lots of fun.  After just a few days of learning the daily routine, it became clear that “me in a home” is much happier than “me at the shelter.”  The shelter can feel overwhelming with all the noise, many changes, and different people handling me, and in that environment, I can act a bit tough and guard my food and crate.  I also visited another home where there was a bite on the first day, so I came back to the shelter. / Energy Level: 4-6.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘place’ commands and I look forward to learning more. / In my temp. foster home, I’m quite comfortable in my crate and will often choose to take a nap in it with the door open.  At the shelter, I guard my food which is in my crate and did bite a volunteer that was reaching for my leash too close to my crate and food. / My potty manners have been great in the temp. foster home I get to visit, and they are good at Mostly Mutts, too.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love belly rubs, walks, snuggles, and having time to settle in at my own pace.  I really enjoy lounging with my foster while they watch TV and pet me.  Other fun things are playing fetch, sniffing around outside, and, of course, treats - especially chewy ones instead of crunchy.  I also love car rides (a dog car seat lets me sit a little higher so I can look out the window!), and I thought getting a pup cup was pretty amazing, too. / I don’t like being picked up in the shelter environment or anyone around my food and crate.  The only dislike I showed in my temp. foster home was carrots – lol.  Once I settle in, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.  I’m taking an anxiety medication called Trazodone for shelter stress.  I believe I’ll be able to wean off this once I’m settled in my new home.

I’m looking for a loving dog savvy family that will give me time to feel at home and treasure me.  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
