Here's what the humans have to say about me:
🐾 Meet Monica! 🐾 Monica is a long-haired calico beauty with a playful heart and a curious, independent spirit. She loves romping around with her siblings, chasing balls, and showing off her skills on climbing toys and hanging toys. Watching her try to fish balls out of the round-about toy is pure entertainment! 😄
Monica is energetic, outgoing, and friendly, with just the right touch of sass. She enjoys doing her own thing and prefers attention on her own terms — but once she’s caught and settles in, she’s calm, sweet, and very loving. She’s the perfect mix of wild kitten fun and gentle affection.
She does well with other cats, has been introduced to dogs with cautious curiosity, and is litter box trained. Monica uses her scratching posts like a champ and enjoys both wet and dry food.
If you’re looking for a fun-loving kitten with a big personality and a soft, snuggly side waiting underneath, Monica would make a wonderful addition to a loving home. 🐱💕 Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
