My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB: January 8, 2024

Meet Jalissa, a clever, beautiful, and extremely loving tortie girl who bonds deeply with her people. Once she chooses you, she is all in. She wants to be near you as much as possible, whether that means lying across your legs on a fluffy blanket, sleeping beside you, or curling up right on top of you at night. She sleeps soundly through the night and is happy to sleep in on weekends too.

Jalissa is a true lap cat with a playful spirit. She needs a good amount of interactive play and will let you know if she is bored. She may bring you toys, perform impressive zoomies with added jumps, or meow in protest if playtime ends too soon. Her favorite toys are laser pointers for long hallway sprints and wand toys with jingling bells. She also loves chasing and sometimes retrieving soft toys. Play is absolutely the way to her heart.

She is very talkative and expressive. She often answers when spoken to, chirps when being pet, and rubs against anyone preparing her food. If you close a door between you and her, she will let you know that she strongly disagrees. She also prefers to supervise showers, so expect a loyal bathroom buddy.

Jalissa tolerates touch beautifully. She enjoys pets, head scratches, belly rubs when she offers them, and even paw handling. If she is not in the mood, she simply walks away. She does not nip, swat, or hiss. She is patient and gentle, and we believe she would do well with children. She does not love being picked up, but she will tolerate it briefly before wiggling free.

One of her most charming quirks is her love of television. She is fascinated by moving images and will try to catch birds or mice on the screen. She particularly enjoys nature videos and even golf. She does not use her claws on the screen, but long scenes with small animals may test her restraint.

Jalissa often carries toys in her mouth from room to room. She also rearranges blankets or clothing to make the perfect sleeping nest. She is incredibly smart and would likely excel at treat puzzles or other forms of mental stimulation. In fact, one night she woke us and led us to a closed door that was blocking access to her litterbox rather than having an accident elsewhere.

She was rescued from the streets, where she likely had to compete for food. Early on, she was insecure and growled while eating, only taking a few bites at a time. That behavior has completely resolved. She now happily grazes and is sweet and tolerant. She does not overeat, though she may snack when bored.

Jalissa may need a short adjustment period in a new home, but once she feels safe, she becomes your loyal shadow. She drinks a lot of water, and we recommend a stainless steel fountain, which she prefers. She is very consistent with her litterbox habits, and daily cleaning is recommended to keep her happy.

Jalissa needs an adopter who can provide plenty of affection, playtime, and companionship. She is highly trainable, extremely well behaved, and has an enormous amount of love to give.

If you are looking for a devoted, intelligent, affectionate companion who will truly bond with you for life, Jalissa may be your perfect match.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fee is $250 per adult cat, and $330 for kittens (under 8 months old).

This ensures that the cats that come into our care receive the attention they need, are spayed or neutered, and receive a rabies vaccination at the appropriate age. For City of Toronto residents, the adoption fee includes a mandatory City of Toronto cat license that is valid for one year. As you can imagine, these fees only begin to cover our costs; donations and ongoing fundraising efforts carry us the rest of the way!

Note:
-Senior cats (8 years or older) have an adoption fee of the adopter's choice, vs. our standard adult adoption fee of $250.
-Our adoption fee for an adult bonded pair (8 months or older) is $192.50 per cat vs. $385 per cat. Thanks for giving two loving friends a home together!
