Redd is truly a wonderful dog who settled into home life almost instantly—like he had just taken a quick vacation at the shelter and was ready to get back to loving his people. He feeds off the energy in the room, so whether you’re heading out on a hiking adventure or planning a cozy couch-potato day, Redd will be absolutely ecstatic just to be by your side. He’s the ultimate velcro dog… if he could crawl into your skin for extra cuddles, he probably would! And the best part? He’s perfectly content being left alone when needed.
This handsome Valentine is incredibly food-motivated and eager to learn, which makes training a breeze. He adjusts quickly to routine and is mostly house trained—after just a couple of early accidents while learning the schedule, he’s been doing great (and reliably takes care of business about 15 minutes after meals!).
Redd loves toys of all kinds, especially soft squeaky ones he can eventually “defeat.” He enjoys tug-of-war, entertains himself well, and is a big fan of puzzle toys. A slow feeder would be perfect for this enthusiastic eater who tends to inhale his meals. He’s also comfortable having his paws handled, which should make nail trims nice and easy once he relaxes.
Redd hasn’t had much exposure to other animals yet and can be very focused and intense when trying to meet them (cats included), but with patient training he should learn to respect their space and enjoy their company. Because he thinks he’s a tiny lap dog trapped in a bigger body, a home without very young children would be the best fit—his excitement is full of love, just a little bit bouncy!
Redd does have heartworm, but don’t worry—this sweet boy’s heart is already full of love to give, and he’s on the path to treatment. All he’s missing is a forever Valentine to share it with.
If you’re looking for a devoted, loving companion who will match your energy, fill your days with joy, and stick by your side through it all, Redd might just be your perfect match.
