My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Greetings from Lark here! She is just a year and a half old and ready to take on the world. Although she is small, nothing scares this brave girl. Any new sound or person is something to investigate. She just has to know whether whatever object she finds is a new friend or a toy to play with. Lark is also extremely friendly as she will happily greet you whenever she sees you. No matter what she is doing at the moment, she is bound to bring joy with her silly antics and love. She is also spayed and up to date on all her core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. Come adopt Lark today; no one brings the fun and cuddles to the home quite like Lark does.

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
