A heart murmur was detected by our vet when examining Pica. A murmur does not give an exact diagnosis as to what is occurring within the heart, it merely reveals that there is an extra sound in addition to the regular heartbeat. Heart murmurs can be benign and transitory (kitten murmurs in which they outgrow, stress related, etc.) or an indication of underlying heart disease.
Currently Pica is showing no outward signs of heart disease and therefore no treatment is indicated at this time. We recommend following up with your veterinarian to determine if the murmur is persistent, any possible causes of the murmur and for any recommendations he/she may have for further diagnostic testing.

Our pets are currently in foster homes as well as we have a program with the local women's prison. With the prison the animals live in the room with the inmate handler and receive socialization and training. We have just recently added dogs to our program with the prison. Generally the pets are brought to our office for their meet and greets and adoptions. We also partner with Ziggy's Cat Lounge in Bremerton for our cats and kittens.

We are a small but mighty Humane Society serving an underserved county with adoption, spay and neuter, wellness, stray recovery, and other animal related services. Currently we are all foster as we don't have a shelter yet, but we have a 5 acre parcel we are going to build a shelter on. We have started the planning process with Shelter Planners of America.
