Hi, I’m Rockey. My previous person loved me very much. She said I’m truly amazing, and I believe her. She made the difficult decision to let me find a new home because she felt I wasn’t happy there anymore. She was often away, and while I try to be independent, I really do love being close to my person. I just want to be loved — a lot. I can be a little shy when we first meet, but give me a little time and you’ll see just how sweet and affectionate I am. I have big, expressive eyes, tiny little meows, and a wonderfully loud purr that starts up as soon as I feel safe. I love sitting in laps, especially if there’s a cozy blanket involved. Blankets are one of my favourite things in the whole world. I adore soft, confined spaces too — little tents, covered beds, quiet corners where I can feel tucked in and secure. I will need a little tent or cozy hideaway in my new home. I enjoy being brushed even more than being pet. I do like pets — but on my terms. When I’ve had enough, I simply walk away. I’m not a fan of being picked up, and if you try when I’m not in the mood, I’ll do my funny little backwards walk on my back legs to make my feelings clear. I’m very good at communicating without ever being mean about it. Sometimes I get playful, especially if you bring out crinkly toys, little toy mice, or anything on a stick that I can chase. I can be vocal and will chat with you in my soft voice. I don’t need constant entertainment, but I do need companionship. I thrive when someone is home more often — I’m cuddly, a little needy in the sweetest way, and happiest when I know my person is nearby. In my previous home, I got along with other animals, but they didn’t always get along with me. Here at the shelter, I’ve been consistently using my litterbox with clay litter for both pee and poop without any issues. The shelter staff thinks I may do best as the only animal in a quiet, adult home. Barking dogs really stress me out, and while I’m not aggressive at all, I will retreat and hide if things feel overwhelming. If I were to share my home with another animal, it would need to be just one, with a very slow and careful introduction. At heart, I’m a gentle, sweet-natured girl who wants a peaceful home, a cozy blanket, a scratching post, a little tent to call my own, and someone who understands that love sometimes looks like sitting quietly together. If you have a calm home and a warm lap, I think I might be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.
